Hi Everyone,

It’s 2010 and just over one year since we sold the first F* Cancer bracelet. It’s time to thank you – and all the wonderful people – who have supported F* Cancer Embrace Life by buying a bracelet, sharing your pictures and stories on our website, signing up for our Facebook Causes page, and most importantly, living the F* Cancer attitude.

With your help - and in just one year - F* Cancer bracelet sales have generated $35,500 in donations to InspireHealth , Canada’s foremost integrated cancer care centre. Coming in 2010 we’ll be expanding our donation program to include more cancer care centres. Once our new foundation is set-up, people who buy a F* Cancer bracelet will be able to choose which organization their donation will go to. We’ll keep you posted.

In this issue we celebrate a friend of F* Cancer Embrace Life – Stan Wychopen, a man who embraced life to his last day. We have a great resource called “Know Your Nodes”. And, we share a pat on the back to Susan Fiedler, the creative talent behind F* Cancer.

Wishing you and your family good health and happiness in the next year,

The F* Cancer Embrace Life team (Susan, Suzanne, Lisa and Donna)

Stan Wychopen was known by all as a man who lived every day to the fullest and shared the gift of life to those who were closest to him. Stan received a F* Cancer bracelet as a gift of support from W. Brett Wilson while he was in the hospital undergoing cancer treatment. One of Stan’s doctors commented to Stan in an email that “there was a bit of unexplainable curative power to the bracelet, in that as you focused on its message, the pain that you had prior did ease.”

Wanting to thank the creator of the bracelet, Stan struck up an email friendship with Susan. His communications with Susan left a deep impression on her. In his last message to Susan, Stan wrote:

“Susan, I don't really know how the days I have left will go, other than being filled with wonderful feelings and memories. Memories so alive of family, community and co- workers. I am so blessed to have known and worked with such special people. Truly a full life and I am so, so content and at peace. It seems it is to go one day at a time, but please know I would not want any day to be different than it is.”

It's for the Stan's of the world that Susan created F*Cancer Embrace Life. His courage touched so many people. He will be fondly remembered by us as our F*Cancer friend.

A Great Resource

Know Your Nodes is an interactive set of web pages brought to us by the Lymphoma Foundation of Canada. Most of us are familiar with most parts of our body and how they relate to our health, but most Canadians don’t know our lymph nodes. You can change that by taking the 21 question “Know Your Nodes Quiz ,” reading “Everything You Need to Know about Your Nodes,” and, learning the “Signs and Symptoms of Lymphoma.”

Susan Fiedler, Good Samaritan

F* Cancer creator Susan Fiedler, had the great honour being profiled by Samaritan Magazine. Samaritanmag.com is a non-frivolous, online magazine that covers the good deeds and efforts of Samaritans — individuals, charities, non-governmental organizations, small businesses and corporations.

Why was Susan and her work with the F* Cancer bracelets chosen as a story for Samaritanmag.com?

Susan puts it this way: “People are starting to recognize that cancer patients need more than just conventional treatment. Where there’s a gap is between having your treatment and getting on with your life. There is a lot of unmet emotional and social needs of people who are cancer survivors or who are going through treatment,” she says. “Basically, that’s what I’m trying to address, create more community for people who’ve been through this experience.”
