Hi Everyone,
It is hard to believe that two years have passed since we sold our first F Cancer bracelet - but they have. And what a great two years they have been - we are very proud to report that we have now raised over 70,000 for InspireHealth, Canada's foremost integrated cancer care center. A big heartfelt thanks to all of you who have bought bracelets.
In this issue we celebrate the first ever F Cancer Embrace Life tattoo. We also salute all of you who have shared your stories, on our blog and on Facebook, inspiring all of us with your courage and determination to Embrace Life. We introduce you to Lisa Ray, our latest F Cancer friend. And, we introduce our new F Cancer website and bring you an update from founder Susan Fiedler.
New Directions – Our New Site and Ambassador Program
The F Cancer Embrace Life website has undergone a renovation -- a celebration of our success in raising funds for cancer care causes. We hope you will like its new contemporary look and continue to be inspired by your stories on our blog. And, if you raise funds for a cancer care cause, we invite you to have a look at our Ambassador Program
and learn how using F Cancer bracelets can contribute to your fund raising events.
Lisa Ray Telling it Like it is with Amazing Grace
We met Lisa Ray through her article with Elle India where we learned that her F Cancer bracelet, a gift from friend Brett Wilson, is now part of her wardrobe. Lisa has a devoted following both in Canada and India and is well known for her roles in Deepha Mehta's film Bollywood/Hollywood and the Oscar-nominated Water.
Lisa began her extraordinary career as a teenager when she was first discovered – she became a model and was soon a cover girl. Her modelling work led the Daily Times of India to vote her one of the top ten most beautiful women of the millennium. She moved onto become a talented actress and was voted ‘star of the future’ at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2002 after her role in Bollywood/Hollywood.
Lisa was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2009. She has managed her diagnosis, treatment and remission with amazing grace. Hers is a story of facing fear and embracing life and we are very proud that she has chosen to wear her F Cancer bracelet to tell the world how it is.
"I am inspired by your feat of alchemy: to craft something beautiful and authentic from a challenging and what I can assume to be painful experience. The bracelet unanimously attracts attention wherever I go in the world and I'm proud to highlight its relevance and message." Lisa Ray
The First Ever F Cancer Tattoo
This past summer we were thrilled to see photos of the first ever F Cancer tattoo, courtesy of Tony, proud tattoo bearer. Tony explained how the tattoo came to be and shared it with us on our blog.
We'd like to share this video created by our F Cancer friend John Temou of Culture Shock Productions who was so moved by Tony's story, he shot and produced this video for us. Thanks John and thank you Tony for sharing your story by video. Please let us know if you would like to do the same!
We continue to hear many amazing stories through our blog and Facebook cause – in fact our Facebook Cause now has over 2180 members!
We encourage you to join the Facebook cause and to post your stories to the blog -- by participating in these online venues, you are helping to create a community of people sharing ideas and support in their embrace of life.
Update from founder Susan Fiedler
It’s been three years since my diagnosis and treatment for non-hodgkins lymphoma. As a result of successful treatment and the guidance I was given through Inspire Health I am stronger and fitter than I have ever been in my adult life -- I feel terrific!
My experience with cancer and my recovery culminated in a decision to make some big life changes this year. Before I tell you about that, let me first say that I have never liked hearing people say that cancer is a gift; it is not a gift I would wish on anyone. That said, dealing with cancer provided me with a shift in perception that helped me prioritize and focus on what is most important. As a result, I have sold Soul Flower, the business I founded over twenty years ago, to the company’s long-time general manager. The sale has allowed me to focus my creative and business talents on projects with a social impact, including F Cancer Embrace Life and the
Pinups for Pink
initiative . I have also found the time to embrace life and pursue my passions for travel and sailing, recently spending three months in the Canary Islands of Spain.
Thanks again to all of you who proudly wear your F Cancer bracelets and to all of you who have shared your stories and shown your support.
F Cancer Embrace Life!
